General Surgery Treatment

General Surgery provides assessment and surgical treatment for common and selected conditions including hernia, gallbladder and appendix-related conditions, piles, fistula and selected laser procedures. Laparoscopic and minimally invasive approaches may be considered where clinically appropriate.

Hernia & Hernia Surgery

What is a hernia?
A hernia occurs when tissue pushes through a weakened area of the surrounding muscle or tissue.
Does every hernia require surgery?
Treatment depends on the type, symptoms and clinical assessment. Some patients may be observed, while symptomatic or complicated hernias may require surgery.
What is laparoscopic hernia surgery?
It is a minimally invasive approach in which specialised instruments are used through small openings.
Do all gallstones require surgery?
No. Treatment depends on whether gallstones are causing symptoms or complications.
What is gallbladder surgery?
The gallbladder may be surgically removed when clinically indicated, commonly through a laparoscopic approach.
When should abdominal pain be assessed?
Persistent, severe or recurrent abdominal pain should be medically evaluated.
Are piles the only cause of bleeding during bowel movement?
No. Bleeding can have several causes, so persistent or unexplained bleeding should be medically assessed.
Do all piles require surgery?
No. Many cases can initially be managed without surgery.
Can an anal fissure heal without surgery?
Many acute fissures improve with appropriate conservative treatment, while persistent cases may require further treatment.
What is an anal fistula?
It is an abnormal connection between the anal canal and the surrounding skin.
Does an anal fistula usually require surgery?
Many fistulas require surgical treatment, but the appropriate procedure depends on its location and complexity.
